Fired Up! Ready To Go! One Voice Can Change A Room

by John Watkis on November 4, 2008

In my opinion, the most moving speech of 2008 was delivered by Barack Obama after his second place finish, to Hilary Clinton, in the New Hampshire primary. It was the first time Obama gave the rally cry “Yes we can!”

Obama must have thought he was going to win that primary, because his concession speech sounded like a victory speech. At the start of his speech, he told the New Hamphire crowd “I’m still fired up and ready to go!”

On the final night of the U.S. national campaign, Obama shared the story of how the “fired up, ready to go” chant began.

If you’re looking for a way to captivate a crowd with a story, watch the clip. This is the way it should be done. Not only does Obama tell the story, he makes sure to elaborate on the meaning of the story after he tells it.

As I listened to this speech last night, I new what the ending had to be. No other ending would have worked as well. You may  already be able to guess what it is, but watch anyway. You’ll get a textbook lesson in story telling.
