Was This Obama’s Best Speech Ever?

by John Watkis on November 11, 2009

I was surprised to read the following headline in this morning’s PR Daily News Feed.

Media Calls Obama’s Fort Hood Memorial Speech His Best

In his article in “the Atlantic’, Marc Ambinder sounded giddy in his evaluation of the speech.

Yes, I’m having a Chris Matthews-chill-running-up-my-leg moment, but sometimes, the man, the moment and the words come together and meet the challenge.

ummm … yeah.

The “Time” article, written by David Von Drehle, painted a more accurate picture of the speech. It also raised some valid points about the difficulty that comes with delivering a speech in this media-heavy generation.

Obama did an excellent job of delivering a difficult speech during difficult circumstances, but I would not say it was his best speech ever.

That’s just my opinion. Watch the speech and tell me what you think.

Hi John
No, not his best speech ever… perhaps it was the wrong event.
For a great speech you need a great event, perhaps this event was great but not great enough!

Still a good speech by a man who knows how to deliver a speech.
Great voice, great timing and great pauses.

Not sure about going back to Lincoln?

Would one or two highs make this a better speech? Or would that be out of character?
