How to Make Your Speech Sound Like Music to Their Ears

by John Watkis on January 21, 2008

When I first posted clips of my speech to the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, I neglected to tell you what the speech was about. If you’ve watched it, then I’m sure you have a good idea of the speech’s premise.

I was inspired by a comment from one of my clients about a speech I had written for her. Her comment led me to research the similarities between music and a successful speech. The research led me to the conclusion that there are “eight essential elements” common to music and successful speeches. The eight essential elements are:

A Chorus
A Hook
Verses
Musical Interludes
Mood
Rhythm
Expression
A Bridge

I’m currently working on a book with the same title. In the coming weeks, I’m going to be asking for your help and feedback.

As you know, I’ve already posted elements 1 and 2. Here are the final 6 elements. I’ve broken them down into two separate clips.

Enjoy!
